Placermining Claims Index

The gold-mining craze led over 100,000 men and women to the gold fields where they staked claims along tributaries of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers.  Following is an index of "Placermining Grants," issued by thee Yukon Gold Commissioner's Office,  which enabled prospectors to become miners and work their claims for "placer" findings (mineral deposits containing gold left by glaciers or rivers).  Over 20,000 claims were filed between the years 1896 - 1908.
