Margaret Ellen White

Sterling resident Margaret Ellen White died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Providence Alaska Medical Center of liver disease. She was 67.

A visitation will be held Sunday at Mrs. White's kitchen (the coffee is on) from 2 to 5 p.m.

Mrs. White was born May 26, 1935, in Hannibal, Mo. She graduated from Hannibal High School in 1953. In August 1973, she came to Sterling, where she was a part of the Soldotna Bible Chapel and the Christian Women's group. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

"Mom accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at the age of 10 during Bible school. She knew and loved the Lord. Married 48 years, she took great joy in her family and friends. Wherever we lived -- Florida, Illinois, Colorado, North Carolina, Missouri, North Dakota and Sterling -- Mom established our home, and her kitchen was open. Friends and family could discuss their private concerns and joys with Mom, and they valued her advice," her family said.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Charles Williams; brothers, Marvin and Marshall; and sister, Marcella Adams.

Mrs. White is survived by her husband, David Lee White of Sterling; son, Mark Edward White of Sterling; daughters, Diana Lee White and Donna Ellen White, both of Sterling; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Lou and Gary Lindman of Soldotna; daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Rae and Gene Birky and their children, Matthew and Rachel, all of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Maria Kay and Paul Horwath and their children, Leah, Nathan, and Carl John, all of Sterling; and brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sharon Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Gideons International, care of Kenai Peninsula Gideons, P.O. Box 2306 Soldotna, Alaska 99669.

Arrangements were made by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary.
