Mrs. Wambach was born on Oct. 15, 1955, in Fargo, N. D. to Robert and Shirley Ziegler. She was educated at Moorhead High School in Moorhead, Minn., graduating in 1974. She moved to Alaska in 1986, residing in Homer. She worked for South Peninsula General Hospital, where she was named employee of the year, as a purchasing assistant. She enjoyed gardening, baking and walks on the beach. She was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Homer.

"Diane enjoyed the simple things in life. She saw no need for frills to complete the happiness. She so much cherished things as simple as Sunday night drives with the family, walks on the beach, long intimate conversations with the ones she loved the most. She loved the outdoors and what Alaska had to offer, but most of all she loved her gardens.

Diane continuously gave. She never hesitated to share her love, proving this most recently after extending her compassion and support of Edna Ullman. She filled our lives with hope, encouraging us every step of the way. 'Reach for the stars,' she continuously told her daughters. She was literally the backbone of our family.

"There are no words that could begin to describe what a wonderful wife and mother she was. She gave us more than we ever thought possible. She touched so many lives and will be dearly missed. But as with all life, it comes to an end, and we know that we will see each other again," the family wrote.

Mrs. Wambach was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Richard Wambach.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Robert Wambach Jr. of Homer; daughters, Cheryl Wambach of Nome and Jennifer Wambach of Homer; parents, Bob and Shirley Ziegler of Georgetown, Minn.; brother, Stan Ziegler of South Grand Forks, N. D.; sisters, Betty Jo Ericson of West Fargo, N. D., Connie Ziegler and Carla Ziegler, both of Georgetown, Minn.; and her grandmother, Veryle Ziegler of Georgetown, Minn.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Diane Wambach Memorial Fund, c/o National Bank of Alaska, 88 Sterling Hwy., Homer, AK 99603.

Homer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
