Jessie Eileen Thompson

Jessie Eileen Thompson, 76, a resident of The Dalles, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at her home.

She was born November 4, 1926, in Meeteetse, Wyoming, the youngest of seven children to Harry Wallace and Susan Louisa (VanBenthuysen) Thayer.

Following her graduation from high school she moved as a young woman to the territory of Alaska where she held several jobs before beginning a career in banking, retiring as a Vice President of the Anchorage branch of the National Bank of Alaska.

She married John Edward Thompson in Anchorage in 1947. He died in 1975.

She continued to work for several years before retiring and moving to Sisters (Oregon) in the mid-1980s. She moved to The Dalles to be near family in the early 1990s.

She enjoyed reading, walking and knitting.

Survivors include her brother, James R. Thayer, Brooksville, Florida; her sisters, Ina Jeannette Knight, Billings, Montana and Maxine and Clifton Bennett, The Dalles; as well as several nieces and nephews.

At her request, no public services will be held. The family will hold private memorial services at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Haven From Domestic Violence.

Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
