Former Big Lake resident Rosa Delia Newell, 62, died of natural causes at her apartment in Wasilla on April 30, 2003.

At her request, no services are planned. Her son Danny will scatter her ashes at a latter date.

Mrs. Newell was born on Feb. 2, 1941, near Guadalajara, Mexico. She met and married Max Newell in Mexico. She came to Alaska with her husband first residing in Anchorage where they established the East Anchorage Motel and Trailer Park. They resided in Anchorage for several years then moved to Big Lake where they built their home. Her husband, Max died in 1989, she continued to reside in the Big Lake home for 14 years and had just recently relocated to the Wasilla area.

Her family said, "She suffered with diabetes most of her adult life, but always had a smile for you and enjoyed visiting with her friends and family. She was a very friendly and well loved person.

Delia's favorite pastimes were planting her garden and flowers each year, vacationing in Hawaii, playing bingo and the family pets."

Mrs. Newell is survived by her son Danny and grandson Dillon of Big Lake; stepchildren Betty Kirk and Sue Renner of Anchorage; and many other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home and Crematory of Wasilla.
