Derek William Monk, 38, passed away April 3, 2015.
Derek was born on Sept. 8, 1976, in Atlanta, Georgia. He served honorably for 10 years and retired from the U.S. Army as a CW2. He worked for the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Derek was a founding brother of Phi Kappa Theta at the University of Alaska Anchorage and was also a member of M+M Club.
Derek married Monica on Jan. 16, 2004, and together they have three children and two children from a previous marriage.
He is survived by his children, William, 15, Jacob, 14, Aaronn, 9, KayLeigh, 5, and Sophia, 20 months; parents, Steve and Terri Moore; in-laws, Barry and Virginia Beaman; sister and brother in-laws, Lindsay and Jack Baker, B.J. and Jay Johnson, Heather Beaman; and nieces, Jacqulyn, Ally and Laycee Johnson.
A viewing is from 4 to 6 p.m., April 10 at Legacy Wasilla Chapel. Military honors will be performed at 5 p.m.
