Former Alaskan mayor and minister Rev. Arthur P. Knight died Thursday,
May 7, 1998, in California. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on
Thursday in Alhambra, Calif.
Knight was born March 24, 1928, in Illinois. The son of an Alaskan
missionary, Knight graduated from high school in Alaska. He served as
mayor of Cordova for six years and was president of the Alaska Municipal
League for one year.
Knight received his baccalaureate degree from the University of Puget
Sound and graduated from the Methodist Theological Seminary in Ohio in
1976. He served United Methodist Churches in Kenai and Douglas, and in
Idaho and Ohio. He was honored by the Alaska State Senate as an
``Outstanding Senate Chaplain.''
Knight was affiliated with Standard Oil Co. of California for 21 years
and was listed in ``Who's Who in the West in Commerce and Industry.''
Knight is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rev. Lu-Dean Knight, son
George Knight, and daughter Rev. Susan Knight, all of California; his
mother, Gertrude Knight, of Washington; his foster daughter, Ruby
Haywood, of Seattle, and six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a gift to a mission project of
the church of the donor's choice.
