FAIRBANKS HOME GUARDS
GENERAL ORDER NO. 4
Alaska Territorial Council of Capital Defense for Capital Fairbanks, Capital
District, has requested that the Fairbanks and Garden Island Patrols be
continued for 4 weeks in the same manner as here to fore, accept the 9 to 11
patrol be eliminated.
This new schedule will cover period beginning Monday, April 29th, and ending
Sunday, May 26th.
The patrol will as here to fore, consist of six guards, two on Garden Island
and four in Fairbanks. There will be three reliefs, the first patrol going on
duty from 11 to 1 o'clock called 1st relief; the second relief from 1 to 3, and
the 3rd relief from 3 to 5 o'clock.
The patrols will go on duty the first week in strict accordance with this
order. The second week, beginning Monday, May 6th, the patrol will go on two
hours later, that is, the first relief the first week will be the second relief
the second week, third relief the third week, and first relief the fourth week,
and so with the other Reliefs.
The patrol has worked out very satisfactorily during the past month and with
few exceptions everyone has entered into the spirit of the matter, and
faithfully performed his two hours service once a week.
However, it MUST be again impressed upon every member that this order MUST BE
DEFINITELY UNDERSTOOD AND STRICTLY CARRIED OUT. Each one is required to put in
full 2 hours duty, and in no way relax the vigilance which is so essential in
maintaining the moral of the movement. Report promptly at the hour fixed, date
and sign the role at the exact minute of your going on duty, and patrol your
post for the full 2 hours unless relieved.
If for any reason you are prevented from attending to these duties at the
hour fixed, it is expected that you will provide a substitute by changing hours
with some other member of the home guard.
