In The News
In 1866, before Alaska was transferred to the United States, the first
edition of the monthly, The Esquimaux, journal was published. It
was a newspaper for men laying Western Union's overland line.
Please understand, not all copies are legible and
therefore will have blanks __________ shown where necessary. Some
blanks will have beginnings or endings (th______gh) where only a
few letters can be read. I have proofread all pages to ensure that
none of my own mistakes are in the transcription.
There are many, many advertisements in these papers.
Repetition of ads in the same newspaper are NOT repeated, if my memory
recalls them. This saves you from looking at the same material in
a search.
I hope these issues will assist you in finding your
lost ancestor. More pages will be added as I can.
