Primrose is on the Kenai Peninsula, off of the Seward Highway at mile 18.4 of the Alaska Railroad. It lies 15 miles north of Seward. It lies at approximately 60░ 20' N Latitude, 149░ 20' W Longitude. The community is located in the Seward Recording District. The area encompasses 16 sq. miles of land and 2 sq. miles of water.

Primrose was first listed as a flag stop on the Alaska Railroad in 1919.
