Kachemak
 

 

Kachemak is on the East Road, adjacent to Homer, on the Kenai Peninsula. It is on the northern shore of Kachemak Bay. It lies at approximately 59° 35' N Latitude, 151° 52' W Longitude (Sec. 23, T006S, R013W, Seward Meridian). The community is located in the Homer Recording District. The area encompasses 2 sq. miles of land and 0 sq. miles of water.

According to W.H. Dall of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey, "Ka" means water, "chek" means cliff, and "mak" is a suffix meaning high, great or large.
