John T. Naughton

John T. Naughton was born May 2, 1881 on the Naughton Farm in Tullaher, County Clare, Ireland. The family farm was located near Tullaher Lake on the road between the towns of Kilrush and Doonbeg. John’s parents were Thomas Naughton born 1851 in Tullaher, County Clare, Ireland and Ellen McDonnell, born Feb 19, 1858 in Monmore North, Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland.  John's grandparents were William Naughton (B&D unknown) and Catherine Newman (sp) (B&D unknown) and also Laurence (Larry) McDonnell, born 1824 in County Clare and died October 24, 1884 in Monmore, Kilrush, County Clare, and Bridget McInerney, born 1824 in County Clare and died November 5, 1911 in the Union Infirmary in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland.

According to the March, 1901 Irish census John was still living at home.  On May 20, 1901 he was traveling from Queenstown to America on the ship Etruria headed for New York city arrival June 2nd 1901.  He was traveling with his cousin Patrick Madigan. Both of them were headed to Patrick Madigan’s brother Simon’s residence in St. Louis Missouri at 926 Dehodemount Avenue, as stated on the ships manifest. However, the street name on the 1910 USA census is Hodiamont Avenue.

John may have married Alexandra (Sandra) Smith. We have no more information on Alexandra and do not know if they had any children.

John may have gone to Alaska possibly for the gold rush.  He died of a ruptured appendix November 27, 1916 at age 35.  John was buried at Clay Street Cemetery in Fairbanks, North Star Borough, Alaska, USA Plot: Moose, NE Quarter, #629.
